Hi there! Kurt & Kyle here. We've been together for 15 years now and can't wait to grow our family. Nothing gave us more joy than spoiling our first puppy with love and we can't wait to pour our hearts into raising your child. We're excited to build a safe and fun home filled with art, books, plants, delicious food, and, of course, cute pets.
Thanks for getting to know us a little more and we look forward to getting to know you and your child, too.
We live in Santa Barbara, CA, in a neighborhood called the Westside. It's a friendly community filled with diverse ages, classes, and races. On most days, we're reading at a nearby beach, drinking excessive ice coffees on a park walk or working out in our garage gym. After living in NY for so many years, we love being able to tend to our backyard garden and raise chickens. We also love road trips up and down the coast to shop and eat, and visiting close friends in/near LA.
Kyle's parents live half of the year just up the street from us where we often find ourselves eating dinner and having game nights. We have an extensive chosen family of friends from middle school to college on both the East and West coasts who are also starting to raise our honorary nieces and nephews. When we're not visiting with them in-person, we catch up over book clubs and writing groups. Kurt's family lives in Baltimore and we get together with them about once a year, usually involving a crab feast. Kurt's sister was adopted so he has direct experience with it.
We both went to NYU for our undergraduate degrees where we met during a semester abroad in Prague. After studying political science in college, Kyle went to a "bootcamp" for coding and transitioned into software engineering (like his dad). Kurt similarly attended a "bootcamp" in web design and later pursued his master's in information experience design. He now works as a researcher. We have worked in the tech industry for over a decade now at remote-friendly companies. Both of us have a lot of flexibility, paid time off and great parental leave policies that allow us to prioritize family time.
We have a shih-poo named Tater (Kyle calls her “girly” and Kurt calls her “Cute Cute”). We also have four chickens—Rainbow, Brooklyn, Venice, and Tulsa—named after Mariah Carey albums and Lana Del Rey songs.
Kyle by Kurt:
Kyle pulled me in with his calm, cool, collected attitude, but I fell in love with his depth: his ability to plan ahead, his commitment to family, his cake sweet tooth, and his Gemini wit. I’m constantly amazed by his groundedness in moments of stress. Everyone looks to Kyle for advice because he cares about details—like if a restaurant’s open, how traffic impacts travel, or if there’s a calendar conflict. He never gets swept away in emotions and has a level of focus that is unmatched.
Beneath his steadiness, Kyle works hard to support others by creating peace. Whether Kyle is weaving at his loom, jumping into the ocean, or just surfing Bravo for a funny show, I can count on Kyle to radiate joy and a zest for life that is hard to resist. I know he will make the most uplifting father, encouraging our child to be themselves and making sure they feel loved no matter what, just like he always has for me.

Kurt by Kyle:
The first thing you’ll notice with Kurt is how comfortable he makes you or anyone else around you feel as soon as you meet. He’s an attentive listener with an infectious laugh and is incredibly thoughtful. He not only sends the handwritten thank you notes and flowers for special occasions, but checks in on friends and neighbors who mentioned in passing that something was wrong at work or home.
An avid astrologer/mystic, he’ll have your birth chart memorized before your last name. It adds to his natural caretaking skills. With all of our pets, he’s had this intuitive connection to know when one of them is sick well before a veterinarian could identify it.
His commitment to constant self reflection and improvement is admirable. He’s going to raise a child to feel all the feelings and encourage self acceptance better than anyone I know. I can’t wait for him to be a dad.
Kurt Fun Facts:
Kurt likes to collect tarot cards.
Kurt can’t live without peanut butter.
Kurt likes to read Fourth Wing and other dragon-related fantasy books.
Kurt loves playing all Pokémon games.
Kurt loves all crystals, but his favorites are hematite, amethyst, and kyanite.
Five Family Traditions
1. Naming our Christmas trees like they are hurricanes (we go down the alphabet every year).
2. Creating vision boards on New Year's Day with our close friends (along with a yearly communal playlist called "Visionton").
3. Eating donuts from a different shop on every wedding anniversary.
4. Planting Icelandic Poppies in honor of our late beloved puppy, Butter.
5. Hosting Thanksgiving dinner parties for which Kyle weaves new linens in the designated color for that year.
Thank you for taking the time to get to know us. We would love the opportunity to get to know you too! We cannot wait to welcome your child into our home and create new traditions as a family. We promise to build a loving environment, giving them the freedom to be themselves and discover new interests. We look forward to navigating this journey together and sharing this chapter with you!
